Team London Bridge launches Bikes for Business at the start of April. The project aims to convert15% of business deliveries in London Bridge to cargo bikes to coincide with the introduction of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) on April 8.

Backed by TfL, Bikes for Businesswill initially target 60 businesses in London Bridge with the aim of ensuring they are prepared for the introduction of low emission zones and to help the Mayor of London hit ambitious targets to reduce the number of vans and lorries in central London by 10% by 2026.

Cargo Bike Expo Event

London Bridge businesses are being invited to come and take a look at the latest models of cargo bikes at the capital’s first cargo bike expo, meet suppliers and get a subsidy to trial cargo bikes deliveries, 12-1.30pm, 4 April at Guy’s Courtyard, St Thomas Street, SE1 9GU.

Subsidies of up to £600 are being offered to businesses to trial cargo bike services.

The scheme should prove popular with businesses as switching to cargo bikes reduces costsjourney times, and congestion– completing journeys 50% faster than vans in peak traffic. And switching to cargo bike deliveries now will future proof business freight services, aligning with the Mayor’s aims to deliver zero emission zones in Town Centres from 2020 and in Central London by 2025, ensuring the business is prepared, able to test suppliers and avoid any disruption come 2025.

Joining the likes of IKEA and Sainsbury’s in using cargo bikes will help London reduce the high levels of PM2.5 and NOx that are omitted into our air. If 15% of LGV journeys in the capital were replaced with cargo bikes it could lead to up to 500 lives being saved a year.
