ShopWatch Success

In January this year we launched London Bridge’s first ShopWatch – a crime reduction initiative specifically for local retailers.

The project aims to reduce incidents such as shoplifting, fraud and violence towards staff.

Run by Team London Bridge’s two funded police officers PCs Nick Morant and Lee Noble - with input from the Southwark Safe Business Crime Reduction Partnership, this 5-weekly forum is proving highly successful.

Prolific offenders are discussed amongst the group to improve vigilance and provide further intelligence for the police, and retail staff are given training on topics such as recording/reporting incidents, identifying counterfeit banknotes and recognising tactics used by criminals.

Arrests for crimes impacting retailers are being made on a weekly basis, many of these thanks to the diligence of our businesses, for which we’re hugely grateful.
