Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing and one of Britain’s greatest Victorians, was a female icon in her own lifetime and remains an inspiration to nurses around the world.
Visit the museum to celebrate this trailblazing woman and explore her extraordinary life, from her privileged childhood and defiance of her parents to her groundbreaking work in the Crimean War and her campaign for better healthcare for all. See the famous lamp that earned her the nickname The Lady with the Lamp, meet her pet owl and view her medicine chest.
The museum also hosts monthly Museum Lates, giving visitors the chance to explore after hours with talks from special guests. This month’s late, will also include a special talk will be given by Eleanor from St. Christopher’s Hospice “Book On the Right Shelf”. The talk will start at 6:30pm and last around 30 minutes with time for questions at the end.
Saunders was a Nightingale Nurse turned doctor who revolutionized palliative care and is considered the founder of the modern hospice movement. Her story will be brought to life by another Nightingale Nurse, who actually knew her. Listeners will learn not just about this amazing woman, but her continuing impact in the modern day.
