Achieving Green Flag status for these areas confirms that London Bridge is one of the best cared for and maintained business districts in the UK. After many years of awards and accolades for our sustainable planting and greening, Green Flag is recognition of our partnership approach to healthy streets and spaces. The award encompasses the wider green space it forms part of, including the courtyard at The LaLiT hotel and the Fair Street Living Wall.

As the internationally recognised quality mark celebrates its 30th anniversary, the Green Flag Award places these London Bridge gardens among a record 2,391 UK parks and green spaces to be recognised this year.

The timing feels fitting for Team London Bridge as it marks its own 20th year. The achievement reflects two decades of work building a great place for business and community in London Bridge, and is just reward for the dedicated team who care for the gardens day in, day out, keeping the space welcoming for residents and visitors.

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said parks are essential to wellbeing, communities and local economies, yet for many people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks “simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.” Investing in parks, he said, is “not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life.” Queen Elizabeth & Druid Street Gardens shows what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed.

The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. It sets the benchmark for how parks and green spaces are managed across the UK and internationally.
