Since sailing into Bankside on 14 September 1996, the ship has become a beloved fixture in London’s cultural quarter, alongside landmarks like Shakespeare’s Globe, Southwark Cathedral, and Borough Market.

The celebrations officially launch on 17 September 2025 with a special Heritage Open Days After Dark event, What Does It Mean to Rebuild the Past?, hosted in partnership with Shakespeare’s Globe. Over the next year, highlights include the 30 Years in the Dock Memory Project, seasonal family workshops, the ship’s first-ever Christmas Grotto, and a new annual membership scheme. The programme will culminate in a large-scale anniversary weekend in September 2026.

The Pearl Anniversary also coincides with the next phase of the ship’s ongoing refit, focusing on restoring her starboard side. The restoration, funded entirely through visitor support, will be accompanied by the “Fill the Dock” fundraising campaign to ensure the vessel remains afloat for future generations.

Local leaders celebrated the milestone. Neil Coyle MP said:

“The Golden Hinde has become an extraordinary part of our local community, providing amazing interactive experiences for children and welcoming visitors from across the globe.”

Councillor Irina von Wiese added:

“This anniversary is not only a celebration of its past but also a call to action to preserve and protect its future.”

Directors Roddy and Angus Francis Coleman reflected on the ship’s legacy and its future, emphasising education, community engagement, and the ongoing restoration work.

The Pearl Anniversary invites everyone to join in celebrating the past and shaping the next 30 years.
