Thursday 12th October, 12:00-13:30, London Bridge Hive, SE1 2EL

There’s a Japanese philosophy that a repaired object can be more beautiful than the original. Sashiko is the stitching that proves it, rows of simple running stitches that turn rips and worn patches into something worth showing off, not hiding.

Beginner friendly, sustainable, and a lovely way to slow down and get creative with your hands.

What to expect:

  • Learn the basics of Sashiko stitching from scratch, no experience needed
  • Take home a gifted repair kit so you can keep mending at home
  • All welcome, whatever your skill level

What to bring:

  • Jeans, a denim jacket, a cotton shirt, a canvas bag, a sweatshirt or jogging trousers work well.
  • Please avoid garments that stretch (leggings), slippery fabrics (chiffon or polyester), woollen items, or outdoor jackets.

Every repair displaces a new purchase. Sashiko makes mending something people want to do rather than something they put off. That’s the simplest version of circular economy in action.

Your facilitator: Kavitha Soundararajan is the founder of isifiso, a London-based workshop business delivering hands-on sewing, mending and making sessions for corporate teams and community groups. She has 30 years of sewing experience and has worked with organisations including Linklaters, Channel 4 and the Bank of England. Every session is beginner-friendly and neurodiverse-inclusive.
