Almshouses Win Stirling Prize
London Bridge-based charity United St Saviour’s recently commissioned the Appleby Blue almshouses in Bermondsey. Designed by Witherford Watson Mann, the development won the prestigious Stirling Prize. Described as the ‘provision of pure delight,’ it reimagines the almshouses as a place of care, shelter and social connection. Congratulations!
New Buildings Open Their Doors

- The Arch Company – Demolished a row of outdated facades on Holyrood Street in order to refurbish them and breathe new life into these long-vacant spaces along the Low Line.
New Developments Get the Green Light
Two buildings were granted planning permission by the council last week, promising more cutting-edge development around the hospital campus and supporting a renewed commitment to life sciences through SC1-London.
- Snowsfields Quarter – A life sciences research hub designed by DSDHA and Allies and Morrison for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation, alongside Oxford Properties and Reef.
- St Thomas’ Yard – Combining modern construction with a refurbished Georgian terrace, this project could provide affordable workspace for science and research. It has been designed by Orms for GPE with a retrofit and reuse-led approach
