There is a common misconception that Trustee, Governor, or Director roles within community organisations are suited only to those in senior professional positions or later stages of their careers. In reality, individuals from all walks of life, including early-career professionals and those with valuable lived experience, have much to contribute.
To help demystify these roles and encourage broader participation, Community Southwark is launching a new pilot training programme. This initiative is designed to introduce participants to the essentials of charity governance, support them in finding their first Trustee position, and empower them to thrive in it. The programme aims to demonstrate that governance roles are accessible and meaningful opportunities for everyone.
Taking on a Trustee role also provides an excellent opportunity to utilise employer-supported volunteering days, allowing individuals to make a tangible and lasting difference to a cause they are passionate about.
Programme dates:
- Thursday 6th November (AM), 2.5 hours, in-person – Introduction: What is a Trustee? What is Governance?
- Thursday 13th November (AM), 2 hours, in-person – Settling into a Trustee Role
- Thursday 20th November (PM), 2 hours, in-person – Developing as a Trustee
- Thursday 27th November (PM), 2 hours, in-person – Becoming a Trustee
