The new Responsible Business Plan for London Bridge

Businesses and employees have another reason to celebrate returning to London Bridge in June. Collectively, our business community has worked tirelessly for 15 years to nurture a Responsible Business agenda that makes us proud to work here, and we have just launched our Plan to make sure all of this effort has the greatest impact it possibly can. The document identifies how Team London Bridge can support our businesses in making a positive impact on people, planet and place, and how small decisions by your business contribute to global goals.

We have always been proud of how responsible and pioneering our business community is, whilst acknowledging that there’s still a lot to be done and that different members are at different stages on this journey. This plan unifies social and environmental initiatives and pinpoints ways we can tackle the big issues as identified through the lens of the UN SDGs. The plan is the result of numerous consultations with our members and research that was analysed by Rocket Science, who brought their expertise of working across all sectors in the civic space.

A big thank you also goes to all involved in the launch earlier this week at our AGM! We heard some fantastic and inspirational insights from member businesses The Stress Exchange and Sapphire Systems, and also from United St Saviours Charity who have recently moved into our area and are leading on Southwark’s new giving scheme. Plus lots of practical ways in which you or your organisation can get sign up to right now, and an overview for the future actions that we’re planning to take on the Climate Emergency.

Janice Phayre, Sapphire Systems – “it can be a really lonely place when doing responsible business. Sometimes it’s really hard to find the time to find out about who you should work with locally and what you can do that would make a difference. So that’s why particularly for SMEs having the external support of Team London Bridge can make all the difference and it certainly has for us.”

Ian Egerton, The Stress Exchange – “as a small, local, independent business, and for me personally, this has been a great privilege. I’ve been involved with Team London Bridge and their Responsible Business Task Group for many years and it’s tremendous to be part of all the work that we and others in London Bridge have done, as the place is evolving and changing.”

John Griffiths, Rochet Science – “in a way, the pandemic has made this responsible business agenda more relevant than ever and accentuated the value of collaboration and connection which is at the heart of the BID”

Sarah Thurman, United St Saviours Charity – “we don’t want to return to normality because normality is not good enough. Collective action to change lives is needed and that’s why we have taken on the giving scheme for Southwark. The ambitions of the London Bridge Responsible Business Plan will brilliantly complement what we are trying to achieve. It is more than just giving money, it’s about how businesses can offer opportunities for young people.”

Nadia Broccardo, Team London Bridge – “now in our first year of the newest BID term, ensuring this agenda is central to all the work we do and deliver as a joined up, responsible London Bridge area.”
