Volunteers transform Snowsfields Primary School

On Friday 12th May a group of hard-working local volunteers from Costain (constructors of London Bridge station) and luxury travel company Belmond gave up their day to create a brand-new vegetable garden at Snowsfields Primary School.

Initially a temporary installation at Potters Fields Park by herbal sweets company Ricola, Team London Bridge arranged for the elements of the garden to be kindly donated to the school – Ricola even arranged for Charlie Dimmock to meet the children and give valuable tips on looking after their new garden.

Despite rather wet weather conditions the volunteers set to work clearing a suitable site at the school, building a compost heap, repairing and painting picnic benches, improving the school’s wildlife garden with a bug hotel, and finally installing the vegetable beds. The day’s highlight undoubtedly came at the end as classes from both Tower Bridge and Snowsfields Primary arrived to admire their new space and help with planting up.

Alison Booth, Editorial Director and corporate social responsibility lead at Belmond said: “Our team of Belmond volunteers was delighted to support Snowsfields School. It was great to see the children's excitement when they saw their new garden and started planting the vegetables.”

On behalf of their volunteers Graham Dean, Community Relations & Security Manager at Costain commented: “It was great for members of our team to help the children from Snowfields by collaborating with Team London Bridge and Belmond. Everyone worked really hard and the end result provides a great area for the children (our environmental adviser Isabel is especially pleased with the bug hotel!).”

At Team London Bridge we always encourage our members to become involved where they can with the local community and will continue to generate opportunities for them to do so. This project is also part of a wider piece of work to create and better manage the area’s network of green spaces.
