A Really Happy Christmas brings businesses closer to the local community in London Bridge

This year's London Bridge Community Christmas has proven to be the most successful yet. The focus this year was on quality over quantity, to give recipient charities what they REALLY wanted; something truly useful to them that might help with their longer-term projects. This included more strategic ways to support the charities over the year ahead as well as traditional and very welcome gift donations.

This new approach led to organisations such as Belmond and Anthony Gold linking up with specific charities to contribute to their ongoing programmes.

A phenomenal response from the business community in London Bridge saw 1701 presents donated. The occupiers of The Shard alone collected a staggering 681 gifts that were all wrapped by their volunteers over a marathon two-day wrapping session. Over in London Bridge City, Norton Rose Fulbright held a competition to see which floor could collect the most gifts; the results were fantastic, with over 500 gifts donated and wrapped.

In total 43 business and their employees contributed and festive wrapping sessions held at the London Bridge Hive were heavily subscribed.

Five additional charities were added to the original list of eight due to the overwhelming volume of contributions. The 13 organisations benefitting from London Bridge businesses’ generosity this year are:

The scope of these excellent locally based organisations varies but their wide-range of local participants means that hundreds of Southwark residents who would have had no presents will have something to unwrap on Christmas Day, and many are guaranteed to have company at some stage of the day.

Nadia Broccardo, Team London Bridge CEO said, “This amazing amount of gifts will bring festive joy to many for whom Christmas can be a lonely, challenging time. The generosity of the London Bridge community gets greater every year and it’s not limited to Christmas time. Our Responsible Business programme goes from strength to strength thanks to the CSR commitments from local businesses and our friends in The Shard.”

Danny Lemon, The Shard General Manager, Real Estate Management (UK) Limited (REM), said: “London Bridge is an authentic and energetic neighbourhood, making it an exciting place to work and visit. At The Shard we look to support the local area through a number of initiatives every year, giving back to the local community.”

Team London Bridge would like to offer heartfelt thanks everyone involved and wish all of our participants, friends and members a REALLY Happy Christmas too.
