Want better links to Heathrow? The AirTrack project might just be the answer
The Heathrow AirTrack project proposes to connect Heathrow directly to the South West Trains rail network.
Four kilometres of new rail will be required to connect Terminal 5 with the existing Windsor line near Staines to then provide services between Heathrow and Waterloo; Reading and Guildford. Indications are that running times between Heathrow and Waterloo will be 40 to 42 minutes with stops proposed at Staines, Feltham, Twickenham, Richmond and Clapham Junction.
Direct services are proposed every 30 minutes in each direction on each route. In addition, Heathrow Express trains will run to Staines every half hour, so there will be a four train per hour service, albeit two with an interchange. Roger Tym and Partners have been commissioned by Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) to study the spatial effects of the Heathrow AirTrack project.
The consortium of organisations behind the proposal is currently seeking the opinion of businesses that could be services by this new air-rail link. As this scheme would significantly reduce current journey times to and from London Bridge it is an interesting project for our local business community.
