Why are we offering this?
After a comprehensive research and tendering process, First Mile Limited were appointed in August to provide a general recycling and waste removal service to our member businesses. The main objectives of this new service from Team London Bridge is:
- To help businesses save money by offering a subsidised recycling contract through industry leader First Mile
- To encourage businesses to recycle more of their waste
- To decrease the amount of vehicle movements in our Business Improvement District

We aim to sign up to 50 businesses in the 2009/10 financial year and up to 100 by March 2011, that's nearly 40% of businesses in our area.
Collections take place in off peak hours to have less impact on traffic flows. First Mile also have the potential to collect 24/7 - putting convenience at the heart of their offering.

In another move to save you valuable time and reduce your costs, the recycling collections will be 'co-mingled', which means that paper, card, glass, plastic, cans and tins can all be put in the same sacks. In addition, First Mile will be collecting dissused electrical equipment, batteries and old furniture on a quarterly basis.
First Mile also offer a very competitive (un-subsidised) general waste collection service in conjunction with ByWaters. For larger firms we have agreed a preliminary comprehensive waste audit service that will be available free of charge with no commitment required on the part of the business.
