When's a churchyard not a churchyard?
The capital is dotted with many small parks and gardens, but often you won't know where they are unless someone tells you. Well here's one of our little gems in London Bridge.
St John's Churchyard sits in the corner of Tower Bridge Road and Crucifix Lane and was in the grounds of the old St John's Church which was destroyed by bombing in the Second World War. To the west of the churchyard stood the Parish Street workhouse which originally served the parishes of St Olave and St John.
These days the park has a number of benches and pleasent flower beds but on a hot day has a lovely lawn on which to sit down, have a picnic, read a paper and catch a few moments for yourself.
A small children's play area may be expanded in the near future as Southwark Council will be investing in the park over the next 12 months.
